As the story goes, Socks the cat (full name: Sockington) was first spotted next to a T stop outside of Boston, where he was meowing and hoping someone or something would feed him. When the person came back from work later in the day, Socks was still waiting by the entrance, still meowing. He was scooped up and passed through a couple homes before he was ultimately brought to Waltham, where he now lives a life of luxury, tuna and cat toys while occasionally destroying things precious to everyone else but himself.
Penny (Full name: Pennycat or Pennsylvania, she won’t reveal which) was, as far as can be discerned, owned by a family who decided they didn’t want her anymore, and unceremoniously dropped on the front porch of an animal shelter, where she promptly ran away at top speed to a nearby farm in Hudson, NY. Here, she lived outside for a number of months, at one point facing down a badger in a one-on-one deathmatch that she, with great aplomb, won. As winter approached, she won herself into a number of hearts with her Penny Trick, a standing-on-back-legs pet-me maneuver that resulted in a 200 mile car ride east to Waltham, where she had all she could ever want in food, toys and sleeping… except for the issue of Socks, who she absolutely hates.
