Sockington’s Fame and Fortune

When the following of the little dope started to increase wildly a week back, I was pretty confused. At most, you see, he’d get a few new followers a day, probably containing the curious and the gullible. Occasionally, of course, a wave of new followers would occur, but after some pawing around, it would be determined a prominent person had mentioned Socks in their twitter feed or elsewhere, and then we knew.

But things started to go off the rails when his followers started increasing by the dozen. The hundred. The many hundreds. In fact, within the scope of two days, over two thousand followers signed up. That is, as we say, a little disconcerting, although I endeavored not to show it, as I am a cat and cats have pride.

The number is now somewhere around 200-300 a day, which is still a lot. He used to flip out at every 1,000 new followers, but when the events are happening within 12 hours of each other, it started to seem silly, even for him. It appears we’re on track for ten thousand within the month of January.

A lot of this can be traced to the fact that Socks is now on the Twitter Suggested Feeds feature, which just came into existence last week. It’s been suggesting him to a lot of people, and a lot of people are following him as a result. Granted, many get smart and leave, but a lot stay as well.

Mystery solved. Now the other hanging question is what to do with all the new followers.

Personally, I go in for the realm of good. I think Socks has no opinion, and you know what they say: all it takes for evil to triumph is for grey cats to sleep. Wait. Give me a moment with these cards….

Where do we go from here? I have no idea. But a sun patch is calling me now.

I would expect nothing less than world domination. I’ll be happy to help out…

I signed up for Qwitter, and it’s hilarious to see what makes someone “unfollow” me. Once, when I wrote “nom, nom, nom” three people unfollowed! Then I feel a little bit sad.

Hi Penny

We hope it doesn’t get to his head. He looks nice, but we’ve heard fame do strange stuff…
